task Design and develop a web and e-commerce site for the Bay Area raw, vegan, superfood confectioner.

challenge The client originally wanted the site to present a multi-page PDF of copy describing the product, process of production and health benefits of each inventory item; while establishing an identity for the new business. The challenge came in creating a stylish and engaging site which was user-friendly while still incorporating a significant amount of the original copy. Later, a 3rd party e-commerce platform, redesigned for brand consistency, was included to facilitate online orders.

solution Developed in 2008, prior to any focus on responsive design, this static site is an eyesore by today's standards. But at a time when vertical scrolling was seen as problematic, varied measures were taken to display a lot of content in a contained, dynamic space. Images and text were interspersed without horizontal alignment to create visual movement while the viewer scrolled through similar content. A vertically-fixed navigation bar and javascript-driven testimonial quotes at the top of the page were both used to reinforce the feeling that all content was enclosed within the user viewport. view site
